Yes, you read that right! Dyeing your hair with colored crepe paper actually works. This is a fun hair hack to try at home if you’re wanting to experiment with your hair color yourself, but don’t want to commit to anything permanent. Intrigued to try it yourself? Keep scrolling to find out how to dye your hair with tissue paper.

Step 1: Choose your color for dyeing your hair with tissue paper.

Want pink, blue, or purple hair? Once you pick the color you want to dye your hair with, find the tissue paper that matches.

Step 2: Create the dye.

When dyeing your hair with tissue paper, you’ll obviously need to create the dye yourself. To start, fill a bowl up with boiling water, and then add in your tissue paper. To help get the dye out of the paper, add salt to the water and mix.

Step 3: Remove the tissue paper.

Once your tissue paper is soaked and sitting in the water for a few minutes, remove the paper. Make sure to squeeze the paper out like you would a washcloth. This will help ensure you’ve gotten the most dye possible out of the tissue.

Step 4: Color your hair.

Now that your mixture is ready to go, it’s time to start dyeing your hair with tissue paper. Place the hair you want to color in the mixture and let it sit for 10 minutes. You can color all of your hair, but if you’re not ready to do that, try dyeing just the ends of your hair like @beautywishes.uk.co.

Step 5: Rinse your hair.

After your hair has stayed in the dye for 10 minutes, remove it and rinse with cold water, and then blowdry. Remember, this color is just temporary, so you don’t need to be afraid to try a vibrant hue. The shade will wash out within a few washes and will fade even quicker if you use hot water. If you want to get the most out of your color, we recommend using a set like Suave Vivid Color Shampoo and Conditioner. Your color will still eventually fade, but it will help the hue last as long as possible. To help combat dryness from dyeing and help your color last as long as possible, use a hair mask like Nexxus Color Assure Long-Lasting Vibrancy Deep Moisture Masque.
